Bill Pullman Responds To Independence Day Trump Deepfake Controversy
Bill Pullman has responded to the controversial Independence Day deepfake video put out by Donald Trump, which has Trump’s face over Pullman’s.
Hollywood star Bill Pullman has given his response to Donald Trump’s controversial Independence Day deepfake video. Bill Pullman is known for his roles in films such as the Star Wars parody Spaceballs, Tom Hanks’ A League of Their Own, and in more recent years, he’s been seen in Denzel Washington’s The Equalizer franchise and Independence Day: Resurgence. However, Pullman’s most memorable role and scene arguably came in 1996’s Independence Day, which sees Pullman play the President of the United States, Thomas J. Whitmore.
In Roland Emmerich’s sci-fi blockbuster, Independence Day, the world is attacked by an extraterrestrial race, and on Independence Day, the people respond with an attack of their own. Prior to the world’s attack against the extraterrestrials, Pullman’s character Whitmore, a Gulf War veteran, gives a memorable speech to rally the troop, uttering words like: “We’re fighting for our right to live, to exist.” It’s proven to be one of the more memorable scenes from the sci-fi epic, and yesterday, President Trump posted his own version of the famous Independence Day speech. The controversial deepfake video shows the scene from the film, but instead of seeing Pullman’s face, it’s Trump’s. Now, the Independence Day star has responded to President Trump’s video.
